Creo 13 is out, and it's a big one: over 200 enhancements spanning AI, performance, simulation, manufacturing and more. We’ve pulled together the changes we think will actually matter day-to-day for teams using Creo, and where relevant, flagged what to check before you upgrade.

The theme: getting engineering time back
Every Creo release brings a mix of headline features and small usability fixes, but Creo 13 is unusually consistent in its focus: nearly every improvement, from AI assistance to faster assembly retrieval, is aimed at giving engineers back time that currently goes on repetitive work, waiting for the system to respond, or hunting for information that should be easy to find.
AI assistance: advise, assist, automate
PTC has structured Creo's AI capability around three levels of involvement, and it's a sensible way to think about where AI actually fits into a design workflow:
Advise: the Creo AI Assistant answers questions inside the design environment itself, useful whether you're new to a task or just rusty on a feature you haven't touched in months.
Assist: AI reads the context of what you're actually working on, looking at the model itself to flag issues and suggest fixes relevant to that specific design.
Automate: AI can carry out design changes directly, but always under engineer control, nothing happens without review and approval.
Everyday usability improvements
None of these will make a headline on their own, but they're the kind of friction-removal that adds up over a working week: opening models in tabs, quickly locating top-level assemblies, and using presets to reuse common feature settings instead of rebuilding them each time. If you spend your day moving between models, these are worth trying early.
Performance: the numbers worth knowing
For teams working with large assemblies, this is likely to be the most immediately noticeable part of the release. Compared with the previous version, Creo 13 offers:
• Assembly retrieval from Windchill up to 70% faster over a wide-area network, a meaningful gain for distributed or multi-site teams
• Global clearance checks up to 11x faster
• Interference detection up to 5x faster
PTC has also reworked model interaction and regeneration behaviour, giving more visibility and control when working with large, complex assemblies. If wide-area Windchill retrieval speed or clearance-check turnaround has been a pain point for your team, this release is worth prioritising.
Model-based definition
Creo 13 continues PTC's ongoing investment in model-based definition, with customisable 3D PDF output and enhancements to GD&T capabilities. Both changes are aimed at the same problem: making sure critical product information is unambiguous and easy to share, whether that's with a colleague down the corridor or a supplier on the other side of the world.
Composite design and manufacturing
For teams working with composites, this release stands out. Complex ply transition calculations are up to 60x faster, complex designs are easier to reuse, and draping simulation accuracy has improved, so designs better reflect how the part will actually be manufactured. That combination of speed and precision is difficult to find elsewhere in composite tooling.
Simulation-driven design
Validating a design early, rather than after it's largely locked in, continues to be a priority for PTC, and Creo 13 pushes further in that direction. Real-time simulation and deeper Ansys integration bring simulation closer to being a natural part of the design process rather than a separate downstream step. Generative design has also been extended to work within the context of full assemblies, so constraints and requirements stay aligned as the design evolves rather than drifting out of sync. The practical result is fewer late-stage surprises and fewer expensive changes after tooling has already begun.
Advanced manufacturing
New swarf milling toolpaths, improved mould design workflows, and enhanced additive manufacturing capabilities extend Creo's existing design-to-manufacturing integration, supporting higher-fidelity geometry and a smoother handover from design release into production.
Design for electrification
As electrical content grows in almost every product category, Creo 13 makes it easier to design mechanical and electrical systems together: improved harness design, better component reuse, and support for space-claim workflows so electrical considerations can be brought in earlier. The aim is fewer late-stage conflicts between mechanical and electrical teams, and designs that come together properly the first time.
