Unleashing Productivity and Innovation: Top 7 Enhancements in Creo 10

Posted by Concurrent Engineering on 08-Jun-2023 14:30:00

Creo, the leading CAD software developed by PTC, has recently unveiled its most powerful version yet: Creo 10. With many improvements and new features, this release aims to enhance productivity and unleash innovation for engineers and designers. From improved CAD model management and design capabilities for composites to advancements in electrification, ergonomics, model-based definition, simulation, and manufacturing, Creo 10 empowers users to create exceptional designs efficiently.

1. Productivity and Usability:

Creo 10 introduces updates to improve productivity and usability, including enhancements to multibody design, surfacing, and model tree management. These updates include a new split/trim feature and the ability to propagate appearances and references during Boolean operations in multibody design workflows. The Stretch tool in Warp has also been enhanced to allow users to select a defined reference, such as datum planes, points, surfaces, curves, or facets, to stretch the model. Furthermore, improvements to the model tree remove confusion between restructuring and reordering an assembly. Users can now expand the extensive patterning capability of Creo to drive the pattern member count for nested patterns.

2. Design for Composites:

Creo 10 introduces a dedicated composite design and manufacturing environment, providing a broad set of functionalities to define individual ply layup, ply sections, transitions, ply order, and even create resulting solid geometry and Inner Mold Line (IML) quilt. It offers rich capabilities for simulating and validating the draping and flattening of individual plies and the final composite design. Users can apply splicing or darting operations to relieve stresses in the fabric, and the automatic creation of complete and detailed plybook documentation is now possible for the final layup sequence.

3. Design for Electrification:

Creo 10 enhances design tools for cables and harnesses, which is crucial for electrification initiatives in various industries. The Split/Merge Harness Tool enables the splitting and merging of existing harnesses, facilitating easy subsystem reuse and collaboration. A new application-centric tree with dedicated views for cables, bundles, and connectivity improves the management of cables and wires within the model tree. Additionally, Creo 10 introduces new ECAD capabilities, including paste masks and hole parameters, for better design and control of PCBs.

4. Design for Ergonomics:

Creo 10 introduces enhancements that allow designers to account for the range of movement, the field of vision, and the uniqueness of users. The Visual Field features can perform reflection analysis by selecting an object, representing the visual field reflecting off the chosen object with a surface cone. The orientation of the reflective object can be controlled by adding a rotation value around one or two axes. Manikins now support multiple reach envelopes, including the index finger, middle finger, thumb, and centre of the palm. The updated Manikin libraries are stored as inseparable assemblies for easier management.

5. Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Digital Thread:

The latest MBD enhancements in Creo 10 allow users to relate symbols or surface finishes to other annotations in the 3D model. Annotations inherit their annotation plane from the parent during placement, ensuring consistency. The GD&T Advisor has been enhanced for improved semantic behaviour of general profile tolerances, compliance with detailing standards, and usability improvements. Creo 10 also supports ISO GPS models with straightness and profile of a line geometrical characteristics.

6. Simulation and Optimisation:

Creo 10 provides enhanced simulation-driven design tools to improve product performance. The new addition, Creo Ansys Simulation Advanced, supports non-linear materials, combined thermal and structural analysis, and non-linear contact, including frictional and rough contact types. Creo Simulation Live now includes expanded contact simulation options and improved result options for fluids and structures. Creo Flow Analysis and Creo Simulate have also been enhanced with better animation and multibody support. Additionally, generative design in Creo 10 now supports rotational symmetry and the ability to add point mass and remote loads.

7. Manufacturing:

Creo 10 brings additive and subtractive manufacturing improvements, enabling the delivery of high-quality manufacturable products. In additive manufacturing, users can create new beam-based lattice types, such as rhombic, dodecahedron, and elongated dodecahedron, and benefit from support for auxetic cells. Creo 10 supports simulation-based variable wall thickness and highly efficient l-graph-wrapped (IWP) lattice cell for formula-driven lattices. In subtractive manufacturing, High-Speed Milling now supports barrel tools for wall and floor 5-axis finishing, while additional control for CUTCOM and clearance enhances turning operations.

Creo 10 introduces many enhancements that drive productivity, quality, and innovation. From improved productivity and usability to advanced tools for composite design, electrification, ergonomics, simulation, and manufacturing, Creo 10 equips engineers and designers with the capabilities they need to deliver exceptional designs efficiently. By upgrading to Creo 10, users can unlock the full potential of their designs, reduce time-to-market, and stay ahead in today's competitive landscape.
