The new version of PTC’s Codebeamer is here - and it’s great. If you’re implementing application lifecycle management (ALM) in your company, upgrading to version 2.2 is a must. In this article, we’ll share six areas where Codebeamer 2.2 delivers significant enhancements. Let’s get started.

1 - Improved performance

Perhaps the most striking thing you’ll notice when you upgrade to Codebeamer 2.2 is how well it runs. Version 2.2 has significantly improved its performance and scalability, with 30% faster response times than previous versions. In addition, the data set used for performance testing has been increased to 1,000,000 items.

If you’re a Codebeamer X user, you’ll notice that Codebeamer and Codebeamer X have been merged into one unified, simplified solution. However, you can still access both interfaces through the platform, so it’s your choice which one to go with. Talk to your systems administrator about your preferred version of Codebeamer.

2 - More integrations

PTC products are famous for their easy digital thread integration. Codebeamer 2.2 joins other products like Windchill and PTC Modeler in using the OSLC standard.

If you work with Microsoft Azure Repos, you’ll discover significant benefits, including the ability to create and manage external repositories within Codebeamer. This feature also supports the manual or scheduled Full Synchronization and the configuration of Web Hooks.

These features deliver tight and reliable collaboration between your tools, enhancing traceability.

3 - Enhanced review hub

Codebeamer 2.2 brings you an enhanced review hub packed with new features to improve useability. Now, you can:

  • Cancel reviews
  • Archive expired reviews
  • Assign ownership to reviews
  • Apply filters
  • Create action points from comments
  • Explore comments, stats and history in separate tabs
  • Create reviews faster with the new Wizard
  • Communicate and collaborate on reviews with other users

4 - Configuration made easy

New features - Protected Configurations for Deployment and Copy To Working Sets - have been introduced to simplify deployments and prevent everyday human errors. Deployed trackers can be locked in to avoid overwriting during subsequent implementations, with the option for system admins to unlock individual trackers when needed.

Other new configuration-related features include a project-level configuration audit with filtering capabilities, which will save your project administrators a lot of time by alerting them to relevant changes to the project configuration.

5 - Better search capabilities

Codebeamer 2.2 has improved its search capabilities to help you find the information you need faster. Now, you’ve got a consistent text filtering experience across a wide range of areas, including tracker, traceability, coverage and browser. Simply search for formatting in plain text.

In addition, the new Baseline Release feature allows users to view the content of a release in a specific baseline, making it easier to browse release content without building complex reports.

6 - Extended background operations

Finally, Codebeamer version 2.2 allows you to run more operations as background jobs, reducing waiting times and keeping you focused on your workflow. Simply put Codebeamer to work in the background and the platform will send you a notification when the task is complete.

Operations supported by this feature include Mass Edit and Excel Export.

Are you ready?

As you can see, Codebeamer 2.2 represents a huge step in ALM technology. If you’re dealing with anything ALM-related in your organisation, you’re sure to gain huge benefits from its improved performance, scalability and capabilities.
