The Essential Introduction to PTC Mathcad Prime 3.0

PTC Mathcad Prime 3.0PTC Mathcad Prime 3.0 is the industry standard for solving, analysing and sharing all of your important engineering calculations.

It’s live mathematical notation, units intelligence and powerful calculation capabilities presented within an easy to use interface allows engineers and design teams to communicate their critical design and engineering knowledge.

As a result of the documentation focused nature of Mathcad, ideas are captured in an intuitive fashion. Math is represented in a way that is easy for the author to write and, just as importantly, easy for a reviewer to understand. It provides an environment where notes can be made quickly, models can be built to test hypotheses and results can be verified.

Teams and companies can now standardises their engineering calculations, through the uses of template in Mathcad. Templates are used to ensure that everyone can start from the same page layout. They can be used to set the units, parameters and even math formatting. Using a template, an engineer can easily build up calculations. Another benefit is that any unit compatibility issues are flagged, which act as a useful unit checking mechanism.

Mathcad makes use of the ribbon user interface, so you can quickly access the functions that you want to see.  For example, if you’re interested in the built in signal processing capabilities. You can find them under the functions tab and even open the help documentation on a specific function that you are interested in. You can also copy and paste content from the help window directly into the worksheet, to help you immediately begin analysis.

Mathcad also integrates with other software, allowing users to leverage data and calculations that you might have collected in a spreadsheet. You can easily embed Microsoft Excel spreadsheets directly into your Mathcad worksheet. You can even pass data bi-directionally. For example, you could use data originally from an Excel spreadsheet to drive the parameters within your Mathcad calculations. Then, the calculated result can be copied into you document of choice, such as a PowerPoint presentation.

Other capabilities include the easy to use programming language for algorithm development and other calculations that require a programmatic approach. The symbolic engine allows you to explicitly solve for equations and, if necessary, go back and forth between symbolic and numeric representations.

PTC Mathcad does what spreadsheets, word processing and programming applications simply cannot do. It integrates powerful calculation capabilities with plots, graphs, text and images into a single, easy to read interactive document. This enables engineers to clearly communicate critical engineering information and spend more of their time actually engineering.
