New Things Are On the Way - Emily

You should have all seen the email from Owen last week around some of the upcoming changes to the business; all of them exciting. As we begin the final month of Q3 I wanted to give a quick run through of some of the new ideas we have been working through and the output we have achieved. Also, see some more new stories from other areas in the business.

New Home Page

Many of you will already know that the current website homepage is about 4 years old now. With the fresh marketing plan Owen has previously released to everyone, we figured it was high time we gave it a facelift. This is the first time I have been involved in designing a website home page and in all honesty, it has been a lot of fun. I started off by jotting down all the things that needed updating about the current set up as well as researching competitor analysis.

Having completed this and set up a plan we get to work on creating the page. This is still a work in progress, but I can assure all of you that it is much cleaner, more modern, and the razor picture is now gone!

New Case Study Page

One of my main focuses for this year was to increase/update the case studies we had on the website. Within this came the decision to completely redo the page and try and make our template stronger. We are now up and running with 3 new / updated case studies on the brand new page, using a brand-new template. I encourage everyone to  familiarise themselves with this and share with customers/prospects, alike. I am doing some work with a customer at the moment on a new case study (details to follow in Atif’s article) but always happy to speak with other customers and work with them to create more great content for the website.

New Partner Page

As Owen has mentioned within the marketing plan release, we are looking to try and position ourselves away from being ‘just’ a PTC reseller to a digital transformation provider. Part of this is the inclusion of our new Partner Page, showing the different companies that we work with and the how  the relationships work. Currently, we have PTC, Luxion, Dell, and AMRC with more to come as our partner ecosystem grows.

New Events

We have teamed up with PTC to hold a 6 event Industrial IoT Roadshow in November and December covering the UK and Ireland. This is quite an ambitious plan but we have strong case studies and customer value to showcase at each event that it should be successful. Locations are:

  • Limerick
  • Dublin
  • Belfast
  • London
  • Sheffield
  • Edinburgh

Full details will be released in the coming days along with a microsite we have set up to promote the events. It will be good for everyone to familiarise yourself with the details and there will be some links to share on LinkedIn to help improve the reach.

New Results

Earlier on in the year I told everyone about the Marketing course I was taking through the Chartered Institute of Marketing and some of you may know that I had my first exam in July (or at least remember the doughnuts I brought in afterwards). It was results day on the 7th September and very very pleased to let everyone know that my first module was passed with a Distinction and 82% pass grade. I have two further assessments to complete between now and April of next year and hope I can continue at this level. It’s making all the 1 and 2 am bedtimes worth it!

Company Event - Owen

Our end of year event this year will be a one day event as opposed to the previous format of two days off site, organised by an individual or individuals in the company.  I think we all agree that the format provided some memorable days and events.  As there is much change at play in the business around our messaging, the out and out subscription delivery model and our ongoing efforts to develop the IoT & AR pillar, it seems appropriate to take stock of our end of year events and look to change the format again next year.

The plan for this year is a one day event, on a Friday local to the office.  The event is booked for Friday 23rd November at Jury’s Inn in Birmingham  https://www.jurysinns.com/hotels/birmingham/map

The plan is that Julian, Nick and I will give a company overview and preview of 2019 in the morning and our afternoon will be spent doing something like this: https://youtu.be/_sigAb2eVJw followed by a few drinks locally.  Folks have the evening to themselves from there and can plan accordingly.  A calendar invite will be going out to all following this newsletter.

Boltight Project – The Start of our New Success – Atif

$50 billion. The industry-wide revenue Augmented Reality is expected to make in 3 years’ time, and we at Concurrent Engineering are making an impact to that projection.

Sept-Newsletter-4

As Lee has mentioned in the June newsletter we are the first PTC partner in Europe to sell and technically support Vuforia Studio to a local customer of ours; Boltight. With this, we are setting the path for the future.

Boltight is a company at the forefront of the bolt tensioning business and with the worlds largest wind technology exhibition held in Sweden upcoming in mid-September, thanks to the sales team’s hard work, they have invested in AR to showcase the power of their tool for the wind industry.

I have been working closely with Boltight in building this AR experience and through a structured workflow, we have created an experience which demonstrates how the product is assembled and how it should be used out in the field. The experience will be used by Boltight’s Sales team, the public who may be visiting the exhibition and anyone, anywhere through Boltight’s Flyers. This means that the experience must be easily adaptable for various scenarios and very user-friendly for anyone to be able to pick up and test out.

It was an interesting journey getting all of this into a single experience and then fine-tuning it to be truly fulfilling. And the output, well…

Take a look for yourselves!

To add, on the other side of the wall, Emily has been working away to create an amazing success story, press days and joint PR to wrap it all up nicely…

But that’s just the start! Through the success of this, Boltight hopes to bring the whole Nord-Lock group on board. Comprising of an additional three companies on an international level. They plan on including more tools in their AR experiences and they plan on making use of AR’s other use-cases such as AR servicing and training.

In continuing this pace, I know we can successfully bring more companies into the world of Augmented Reality and not only will we be a part of the $50 billion projection, we will also fill our own projections.

Learning New Skills – Heather

Sept-newsletter5
This August, I was challenged to do a 5-day training course is Creo Elements Direct Modelling and Sheet Metal. Something I had never done before. Should be easy right? Or so I thought.

After a series of challenges with getting access to the software, getting license files and the lovely challenge of laptops not coming back in time for the course, etc… I still had to sit down to learn it. It is so different from any other package I have used before. Everything I knew about CAD modelling had to be ripped up and I had to start again learning explicit modelling with no history. This was a solo learning experience; there was no one to ask in the office as it was new to all of us, no helpful tutorials of note, and the training materials are very sparse. Never the less, I persevered and managed to get my head around the course content.

The first day of the course and it starts with just minutes to spare (only got the licenses working just before 9 am – a close one). We’re then off to a flying start with some basic stuff. Then come the questions … I managed to get these answered. I ended up filling in the time with additional appropriate examples as my students are learning fast. All in all; it went well, and as a challenge, it was an interesting one – like learning a foreign language and probably very good exercise for my brain.

Celebrations!
